Gervais Street Bridge

Completed in 1928, the Gervais Street Bridge replaced a ferry line between the East and West sides of the Congaree. When constructed, it was the only bridge to do so. Previously the river was spanned by the Saluda Bridge which was burned by Confederates in a failed attempt to halt the advance of General Sherman.
